The Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship

The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. The price of travel isn’t included in AKF scholarships

The Aga Khan Foundation supplies a limited number of scholarships every year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from developing countries who’ve no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant : 50% loan basis by way of a competitive application procedure once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is also willing to take into consideration applications for PhD programmes, when doctoral degrees are needed for the career objectives of the student. Requests will also be considered for travel and study awards for PhD students performing their study in Third World countries on topics judged to be of interest to the Aga Khan Development Network. Applications for short-term courses aren’t considered; neither are applications from students who’ve already began their course of study.

Geographic Scope

The Foundation accepts applications from countries where it has branches, affiliates or other AKDN agencies which can support with processing applications and interviewing applicants. At present, these are Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada.

Selection Criteria
The major criteria for choosing award winners are:
1.outstanding academic records,
2.genuine monetary will need,
3.admission to a reputable institution of higher learning and
4.thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans.

Candidates are also evaluated on their extra-curricular interests and achievements, possible to acquire their objectives and likelihood to succeed in a foreign academic environment. Applicants are expected to have some years of work encounter in their field of interest.

Loan Conditions

Half of the scholarship quantity is considered as a loan, which will need to be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is needed to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, beginning six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Application Procedures
The application procedures of AKF’s International Scholarship Programme are decentralised. Students could acquire application forms as of January 1st every year from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their countries of present residence. Completed applications will need to be returned to the agency from which the form was obtained, or to the address indicated on the front of the form. They will need to not be sent to Geneva.

KENYA MEDICAL TRAINING COLLEGE

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES 2011/2012 ACADEMIC YEAR
Applications are invited from qualified candidates for admission into Medical Courses for the academic year 2011/2012 as Regular or Module II/Parallel Category. The Regular category have subsidized fee with optional accommodation but no choice for Campus while the Module II/Parallel category have non subsidized fee, no accommodation option but have option for Campuses in more than twenty nine (28) campuses situated in different parts of the country depending on the courses.

Application guidelines
1. Application forms can be obtained from the KMTC website (www.kmtc.ac.ke), the nearest KMTC campus and KMTC facebook page
2. Candidates must submit duly filled KMTC application forms (KMTC/QP-01/CAF).
3. Applicants MUST specify their desired training category Regular Category OR Module II/ Parallel category (For Module II/Parallel category please indicate your preferred Campus)
4. The candidates MUST indicate clearly TWO preferred courses in order of priority (1st and 2nd) in the application form.
5. Candidates are advised to attach legible Photostat copies of academic certificates/result slip, school leaving certificate and national identity card/birth certificate.
6. Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable fee of KShs.1, 000 OR US$ 50 for non-Kenyans in the form of Banker’s Cheque or National bank deposit slip at Hospital Branch Nairobi Account Number 0100358521700 payable to the Director, KMTC. Cash money is strictly NOT acceptable. (One should send an original banking slip and NOT the photocopy)
7. Application fee does not guarantee admission
8. Candidates should provide reliable and permanent mailing address with postal codes for any future contact.
9. Applications should be sent so as to reach the Director before 30th April 2011.
10. Duly completed application forms may be hand delivered to the KMTC headquarter offices in Nairobi.

PH.D. Scholarships in Economics - University of Nairobi School of Economics

Applicants with research experience in economics, and / or with an academic / research appointment at a university or research institute will have an added advantage.
