COLLEGE OF
ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (COETEC)
RE-INVITATION
(DOUBLE DEGREE) PROGRAMMES FOR JKUAT ENGINEERING GRADUATES
(JANUARY
2012 INTAKE)
Jomo
Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) continues to excel as
a leader in the provision of engineering education and training. Towards this
end, JKUAT Senate, and the Engineers’ Registration Board have approved the re-invitation of former JKUAT graduates
of Telecommunication and Information
Engineering (TIE), Electronic
and Computer Engineering (ECE), Biomechanical
and Processing Engineering (BPE) and Soil, Water and Environmental Engineering (SWE) to pursue relevant
programs leading to the award of a second
engineering degree (double degree). Double degrees approach is a current global
trend, and is a common arrangement in renowned universities where they are
valued because the graduate has multiple skills which make them more
competitive in the job market, and responsive to national and international
needs.
JKUAT invites applications from relevant
JKUAT engineering graduates for the following Re-invitation (double-degree) programs in the College
of Engineering and Technology (COETEC), to be offered at the main campus, Juja:
1.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic
Engineering (Re-invitation program)
2.
Bachelor of Science in Agricultural
Engineering (Re-invitation program)

COURSE BRIEF
Electrical
and Electronic Engineering
The degree program is
designed to produce a graduate engineer who has knowledge in the core areas of
electrical and electronic engineering. These include electronics,
telecommunication, control, electrical machines and power systems. In the later stages of the course, students
specialize in either light current or heavy current option. The students are expected to learn a
systematic and analytical approach to electrical and electronic engineering to
enable them to carry out design, implementation, maintenance and research
work. The career paths are wide and
varied and the graduates can find work in industries such as aviation,
manufacturing, telecommunication, media (electronic and print),
building/construction, power and energy management.
Agricultural Engineering
This program has evolved from the traditional design and development of
agricultural machinery, to a knowledge-based engineering that integrates
engineering knowledge and design with applied biology, environmental and
agricultural sciences. This program includes new areas such as controlled
environment agriculture, precision agriculture, automation and emerging
technologies, sustainable energy systems, environment sciences, the development
of biomaterials and new systems that can promote a sustainable food
production. Graduates from this program
utilize knowledge and innovation to ensure food security, eliminate poverty
through employment creation in the context of a changing climate and
environment; as well as meet some of the fundamental needs of life namely;
food, shelter and clothing. The career
paths are wide and graduates get employed in a variety of organizations such as
Government departments, manufacturing sector, non-governmental organizations,
etc.
