APPLICATIONS FOR INSTITUTION BASED POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES - AUGUST 2011 INTAKE

Applications are invited from qualified applicants for the following Kenyatta University programmes which will be offered at Egoji Teachers College

MERU through Institution Based Mode of Study in the academic Year 2011/2012 beginning August 2011. The entry requirements for each Programme are as shown below:
a) SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
1. Department of Educational Psychology


Master of Education in
- Educational Psychology
- Guidance and Counseling

Requirements

Bachelor of Education Degree with at least Second Class Honours (UpperDivision) or its equivalent from Kenyatta University or any recognized institution, or Bachelor of Education Degree with at least Second Class(Lower Division) with at least two years of relevant work experience.

Tuition:
• East African: - 120,000/= p.a.
• Non East African: 150,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

2.Department of Educational Management,


Policy and Curriculum Studies
Master of Education in:
- Educational Administration
- Educational Planning

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Education Degree in related field, with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent from Kenyatta University or any recognized institution. Those with Bachelor of Education Second Class (Lower Division) or its equivalent with at least two years of relevant work experience may be
considered.
 
Tuition
• East African: - 120,000/= p.a.

• Non East African: 150,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

B) SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCIES
1. Department of History, Archaeology & Political Studies:

Master of Arts in:
- History
- Political Science
- Peace and Conflict Management

Tuition:

• East African: - 120,000/= p.a.
• Non East African: 150,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

2.Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree of at least Second


Class Honours (Upper Division) or its equivalent in related disciplines from a recognized university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and at least two years relevant work experience will be considered.

• Non East African: 150,000/= p.a.

2. Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies
Master of Arts in Religious Studies (Christianity, Islam, African Religious studies
Minimum Requirments
Bachelors Degree with specialization in Religious Studies with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from a recognized university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) should have at least two years relevant work experience after graduation.

Tuition:
• East Africans: 120,000/= p.a.
• Non East Africans: 150,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

3. Department of English and Linguistics


Master of Arts in- English and Linguistics
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree of at least Second

Minimum Requirments

Class Honours (Upper Division) or its equivalent in related disciplines from a recognized university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and at least two years relevant work experience will be considered.

4. Department of Literature


Master of Arts in Literature

Minimum Requirments
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree of at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or its equivalent in related disciplines from a recognized University. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and at least two years relevant work experience will be considered.

• East Africans: 120,000/= p.a.
• Non East Africans: 150,000/= p.a.

5. Kiswahili and African Languages


Department

Master of Arts in Kiswahili

Minimum Requirments
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education (Arts) with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in relevant disciplines from a
recognized university with an average grade of ‘B’ in Kiswahili Studies. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and at least two years relevant work experience will be considered.

Tuition:

• East Africans: 120,000/= p.a.
• Non East Africans: 150,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

6. Department of Geography


Master of Science in
- Climatology
- Urban and regional planning
- Hydrology and Water Resources
- Biography

Minimum Requirments
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education (Arts) Degree of at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in related disciplines from a recognized university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and at least two years relevant work experience will be considered.

Tuition:
• East Africans: 130,000/= p.a.
• Non East Africans: 175,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

7. Department of Gender and Development Studies
Master of Arts in Gender & Development Studies

Minimum Requirments
Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in related field from any disciplines from Kenyatta University or any other recognized university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and minimum of two years relevant work or research experience will be considered.

Tuition:
• East Africans: 120,000/= p.a.
• Non East Africans: 150,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

C) SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES
Department of Mathematics
Master of Science in:
- Statistics
- Applied Mathematic

Minimum Requirments
Bachelor’s Degree in related disciplines with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent from a recognized University with an average grade of ‘C’ in area applied. Those with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with an average grade of ‘C’ in the area applied and at least two years work experience will be considered.

Tuition:
• East Africans: 130,000/= p.a.
• Non East Africans: 175,000/= p.a.
Statutory Fees: 22,700/= p.a.

DURATION AND PATTERN OF MASTER’S DEGREE COURSES


(i) The Master’s Degree Courses shall extend over a minimum period of eighteen (18) months.
(ii) The courses will be offered by Coursework, Examination and Thesis (or Project where stated)

DURATION AND PATTERN OF POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA COURSES

The Postgraduate Diploma courses shall extend over a minimum period of one (1) academic year, and will be offered by Coursework and Examination.

DURATION AND PATTERN OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE COURSES
(i) The Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) courses shall extend over a minimum period of three (3) academic years.
(ii) The courses will be offered by Thesis (unless stated otherwise)

MODE OF APPLICATION
(i) Application forms can be obtained from Kenyatta University, Admissions Block, Office No. 12 or at the Regional Centres based in Nairobi, Embu, Nyeri, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Garissa, Marsabit and Kakamega or be downloaded from our website. Applicants shall pay non-refundable processing fee of kshs.2,000/= for East Africans and Kshs.4,000/= for non-East Africans through Bank deposit into any of the following bank accounts:

Copies of relevant professional and academic certificates and transcripts, Four (4) I’x1’ passport size photos and original application fee receipt, MUST be attached to the application form.
